Devil's Claw – Forschung
Überwiegend Mechanismus / Beobachtung
19 begutachtete Studien
Was die Evidenz sagt

Einfach gesagt: By integrating molecular targets, preclinical and clinical evidence, and advances in delivery technologies, this review positions harpagoside as a prototype multi-target phytochemical with significant translational promise in inflammatory, metabolic, and degenerative disorders.

Clinical trials using standardized extracts (50-100 mg/day harpagoside or 2.6 g/day powdered root) have reported significant improvements in osteoarthritis and chronic low back pain, with fewer gastrointestinal adverse effects compared to NSAIDs.
Current challenges include variability in phytochemical content, limited pharmacokinetic and safety data, and insufficient GLP-compliant long-term toxicity studies.
By integrating molecular targets, preclinical and clinical evidence, and advances in delivery technologies, this review positions harpagoside as a prototype multi-target phytochemical with significant translational promise in inflammatory, metabolic, and degenerative disorders.
Einfach gesagt: Such findings highlight the gaps in the study of these plants for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and, at the same time, the potential for opening new perspectives in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, providing expectations for innovative solutions in this critical domain of medicine.
Additionally, the use of nutraceuticals derived from medicinal plants has emerged as a promising approach, offering natural therapeutic alternatives.
However, the pressing need for studies focusing on the pharmacokinetics, safety, and pharmacological interactions of these extracts for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases is emphasized.
This review also evaluated advances in nutraceutical delivery systems, highlighting technological innovations that can optimize the precise delivery of these compounds to patients.
Einfach gesagt: Further large-scale, rigorously designed randomized trials using standardized formulations are required.

Available safety data suggest that HP is generally well tolerated, although product quality, standardization, and long-term safety data remain variable across jurisdictions.
Current evidence does not support positioning HP as a general replacement for NSAIDs.
Rather, HP may be considered as a complementary or selective option for some patients, particularly where NSAID intolerance or long-term safety concerns exist.
Einfach gesagt: Our study confirmed that a combination of boswellic acid and harpagosides is beneficial as an additional therapy in knee OA.

Among the 4 visual analogue scale (VAS) values investigated from WOMAC, significant change was seen for functionality in all three groups; however, the extent of change was twice as large in the physical therapy + Loxacon ® group at Visit 2 in comparison with the other two groups.
In the physical therapy + placebo group, improvement was seen only at the 3rd visit when they were also receiving Loxacon ® capsules.
The most pronounced difference was seen in the minimum clinically important difference index, calculated from the quality of life-VAS, where those taking Loxacon ® capsules had a chance 3 times as high to obtain clinical improvement versus the other two groups.
Einfach gesagt: Limited evidence was found for the Chinese plant extract duhuo jisheng Wan, cetyl myristoleate, lipids from green-lipped mussels, and plant extracts from Harpagophytum procumbens.
