Beta-Carotene and Vitamin A can interact. CARET gave exactly this combination (30 mg beta-carotene plus 25,000 IU retinol) and found MORE lung cancer (RR 1.28) and more deaths from any cause (RR 1.17); the trial was stopped early. Do not stack them. If vitamin A intake is the goal, dietary beta-carotene alone is the safer route because conversion is down-regulated once status is adequate.

Beta-carotene is a regulated precursor of vitamin A, but preformed retinol is not regulated — taken together the retinol load is additive while the conversion safeguard applies only to the carotenoid half.
