Pectin is a water-soluble dietary fiber found in the cell walls of fruit, extracted commercially from apple pomace and citrus peel and widely used as a gelling agent in jams and jellies. In the digestive tract it absorbs water and forms a viscous gel that binds bile acids and slows gastric emptying.
Pooled evidence from soluble-fiber meta-analyses shows pectin produces small but consistent reductions in total and LDL cholesterol, and it blunts the post-meal rise in blood glucose.
Its effects on satiety and body weight are real but smaller and less consistent, depending heavily on the physical form (gelled vs. bulking) in which it is delivered. Pectin is also fermented by colonic bacteria to short-chain fatty acids, giving it prebiotic activity.

The commonly studied dose of Pectin is 6-15g of pectin daily, split across meals with water. Research points to an estimated optimal dose around 10g, with a minimum effective dose near 6g. Individual response varies — start low and adjust.
The best time to take Pectin is with meals. Take it with food. Pectin works by forming a viscous gel that must be present alongside food to bind bile acids, slow gastric emptying, and blunt the post-meal glucose rise.
