With low vitamin D status a smaller share of the calcium is absorbed. Calcium and vitamin D are the combination tested in the osteoporosis trials.
Take together if bone health is the goal. Count the vitamin D in both products toward one daily total.

Efficacy of ossein-hydroxyapatite complex compared with calcium carbonate to prevent bone loss: a meta-analysis.
Menopause (2009) · Meta analysis
Comparison of the treatment effects of ossein-hydroxyapatite compound and calcium carbonate in osteoporotic females.
Osteoporos Int (1995) · Rct · n=40
Randomisierte, doppelt verblindete Studie mit 40 Frauen mit postmenopausaler Osteoporose. Jede erhielt 20 Monate lang täglich 1.400 mg Calcium, entweder als OHC oder als Calciumcarbonat.
Comparison of the effects of ossein-hydroxyapatite complex and calcium carbonate on bone metabolism in women with senile osteoporosis: a randomized, open-label, parallel-group, controlled, prospective study.
Clin Drug Investig (2011) · Rct · n=120
Randomisierte, offene Studie mit 120 Frauen über 65 Jahren mit Osteoporose (55 OHC, 65 Calciumcarbonat), von denen 54 die 3 Jahre abschlossen. OHC lieferte täglich 712 mg elementares Calcium, Calciumcarbonat 1.000 mg. Beide Gruppen nahmen zusätzlich Calcifediol ein.

Vitamin D and respiratory tract infections
BMJ (2017) · Meta analysis · n=11321
25 RCTs, 11.321 Teilnehmer im Alter von 0 bis 95 Jahren. Vitamin D reduzierte akute Atemwegsinfektionen insgesamt (adjustierte OR 0,88, 95-%-KI 0,81 bis 0,96).
Both points come from a meta-analysis of double-blind cholecalciferol trials in people aged 60 and over (PMID 15886381). Trials at 700 to 800 IU a day cut hip fracture risk by 26% (RR 0.74) and non-vertebral fractures by 23%, plotted at 800 IU. Trials at 400 IU a day showed no benefit (hip fracture RR 1.15), and the WHI trial of 400 IU with 1,000 mg calcium did not significantly reduce hip fracture (PMID 16481635). Most of these trials also gave calcium, and the Cochrane review found vitamin D alone unlikely to prevent fractures while vitamin D with calcium gave a small reduction (PMID 24729336). Doses above 800 IU were not compared, so no optimal dose or ceiling is set.
KI-geschätzt aus veröffentlichten Studien. Als grobe Orientierung zu verstehen.
