Calcium and Calcium AKG can interact. Combined use increases total daily calcium load. At total doses exceeding 2500 mg/day, the risk of constipation, kidney stone formation, and potential cardiovascular calcification increases. However, moderate combined dosing may enhance bone mineralization without adverse effects. Account for elemental calcium from calcium AKG when calculating total daily calcium intake. Keep total elemental calcium below 2000–2500 mg/day. No need to separate timing unless total intake is high; the AKG component is beneficial when taken around meals.

Calcium AKG (alpha-ketoglutarate bound to calcium) provides an additional source of elemental calcium. When taken with standalone calcium supplements, total calcium intake may exceed the upper tolerable intake level (2500 mg/day for adults). Excessive calcium competes at intestinal transporters and may also increase risk of hypercalcemia and renal calcium load. The AKG moiety supports Krebs cycle and epigenetic pathways independently.
