Diosmin is a citrus-derived flavonoid, most studied as the micronized purified flavonoid fraction (MPFF, 90% diosmin + 10% hesperidin; brand Daflon). It is the best-evidenced venoactive agent: meta-analyses — including Cochrane reviews of phlebotonics — show it reduces leg edema and improves venous symptoms and quality of life in chronic venous insufficiency, and it relieves hemorrhoid symptoms. It works by improving venous tone, lymphatic drainage, capillary resistance, and by reducing inflammatory leukocyte–endothelium interactions. Two honest caveats: most high-quality evidence is for the MPFF combination (not plain diosmin), and several MPFF trials are industry-supported. It relieves symptoms and is an adjunct to compression therapy, not a cure for structural venous disease.
